From barns to the bay: Best wedding venues in Door County

Wedding venues in Door County

6 of our favorite places to say “I do” on the peninsula

If you’ve spent any time in Door County, you already know why so many couples choose to get married here. For some, it’s the place they fell in love — the backdrop of their first weekend getaway. For others, it’s a place that’s been part of their lives for as long as they can remember. And then there’s the natural beauty — the waterfront, the winding country roads, the historic barns, and the sunsets that still take your breath away (no matter how many times you’ve seen them!).

Whatever the reason, it’s no surprise that wedding venues in Door County capture that rare mix of sentiment and scenery. Here are a few of our personal favorites at Ephraim Shores Resort — plus a few tips for making the most of your big day (and your guests’ stay!):

6 of the best wedding venues in Door County

  1. Woodwalk Gallery, Egg Harbor: Art and nature blend beautifully at Woodwalk Gallery, which is regarded as one of the most beloved wedding venues in Door County. The lovingly restored barn, thoughtfully cared-for gardens, surrounding fields, and the backdrop of curated art creates an incredible atmosphere, especially for those couples looking for an open and natural setting.
  2. Northern Haus, Sister Bay: Just minutes from Ephraim Shores, Northern Haus is one of the wedding venues in Door County with the perfect combination of untouched beauty and modern luxury. With 10 acres of forest and 20 acres of cleared land and a new construction farmhouse with exposed beams and a clear white interior, the property is made for personalized experiences. Bonus: the property is open and available year-round for events of any type, not just weddings!
  3. About Thyme Farm, Baileys Harbor: This ten-acre property includes one of the largest wedding barns in Door County — a restored timber structure with stone walls, chandeliers, and sliding doors that open to the countryside. Around the barn, gardens bloom from spring through fall, with lilacs, lilies, and apple trees framing the property. The owners of About Thyme also limit the number of weddings each year, which gives it an exclusive feel.
  4. Boynton Chapel at Björklunden, Baileys Harbor: Tucked into the woods on the Björklunden estate, Boynton Chapel feels like something out of another time. Built by Winifred and Donald Boynton between 1939 and 1947, the small wooden chapel was modeled after a 12th-century Norwegian stave church — a handcrafted work of devotion inspired by the Garmo church in Lillehammer, Norway. Inside, the chapel is adorned with 41 hand-painted frescoes and intricate, carved-wood details. It’s an intimate space, which makes it one of the most meaningful wedding venues in Door County for couples drawn to both simplicity and history.
  5. Kress Pavillon, Egg Harbor: All you need to know about the Kress Pavilion are these three words: panoramic bay view. Perched in the heart of Egg Harbor, this modern wood-and-glass building overlooks the bay and surrounding orchards. The second-floor Great Hall is bright and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows. A wraparound outdoor porch offers views in every direction, making it just as beautiful on a sunny summer day as it is during a fall sunset.
  6. Sawyer Farm, Sturgeon Bay: A working farm with 80 acres of open countryside, Sawyer Farm feels like an easygoing yet unforgettable experience. From June through September, weddings are held here against a backdrop of rolling fields and grazing cattle. Ceremonies take place on the lawn, framed by two weeping willow trees, and afterwards, guests can mingle over cocktails or yard games while the sun sets across the farm.

Tips for planning a great Door County wedding:

  • Guest experience: Accessibility and lodging matter, especially if your guests are traveling and aren’t familiar with the area. Central locations like Ephraim Shores Resort make logistics simple.
  • Seasonality: Summer and fall are peak times, so book early. Spring and late fall weddings can be just as stunning (and easier on your budget).
  • Photo ops: From lighthouses to orchards, Door County is filled with natural backdrops for your photos. There are plenty of local photographers that will know the perfect spots!
