Polar Vortex Leaves Motels in Door County in the Deep Freeze
Winter Offers Its Own Brand of Beauty
The surge of frigid air that swept through the eastern half of the country in early January made it colder at Ephraim Shores and other motels in Door County than the North Pole. Really, it did.
Local residents stayed bundled up inside as temperatures plunged to 15 to 20 degrees below zero, and brisk winds made it feel like closer to 45 below zero. That’s cold even by our standards!
For those bold enough to brave the elements, the bright white of sun-splashed ice and snow provides a clean canvas for nature to create some beautiful scenery. If you’re able to make the drive up here, you’ll see a version of Door County that is very different from that of the busy season.
It’s gorgeous, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world.
