Golf vacations in Door County don’t disappoint

Best golf views in Door County

Peninsula State Park Golf CourseMany of our guests begin their golf vacations in Door County right up the hill from Ephraim Shores. Long considered one of the most scenic and fun of the Door County golf courses, this 18-hole gem climbs at least part of the Niagara Escarpment limestone bluff five times. You will want to seriously consider taking a power cart, and get ready to take some social media-worthy pictures across Eagle Harbor.

Alpine Golf Course – This 36-hole complex sits just south of Egg Harbor. The older Red and White nines wind their way below the bluff, while the routing on newer Blue and Black nines are mostly up on top. The final hole on the Blue course features one of the most photographed views in the state. It features a tee shot from high up on the bluff toward the green below, framed by the waters of Green Bay in the background.

Door County 18-hole courses challenge your game

The OrchardsThe Orchards is only 15 minutes south of Ephraim Shores, just east of Egg Harbor. This championship-level course features multiple sets of tees to match your ability level, with a finishing stretch of holes that is good as any in Door County. You will have plenty of opportunities to grab a delicious snack on this appropriately named course.

Idlewild Golf CourseThe only one of the Door County golf courses south of Sturgeon Bay, Idlewild is a flat, but often windy course located near Potawatomi State Park. Sufficiently long from the back tees for advanced players, Idlewild offers a fun day on the course for most ability levels. Test your nerve with approach shots over lagoons at the end of both nines.

Maxwelton Braes Golf CourseStep back in time on this historic course on the Lake Michigan side of Door County, just south of Baileys Harbor. Originally built as a windswept links course in 1931, mature trees now play a major role in the character of this 18-hole layout.

Cherry Hills Golf CourseThis 18-hole resort course just north of Sturgeon Bay uses the natural contours of the mostly submerged Niagara Escarpment to deliver a pleasant golf experience for a wide range of ability levels. Cherry Hills makes up for its relatively short length with fairways mostly devoid of level lies, and sloping greens that can make putting an adventure.

Door County 9-hole courses offer fun for the whole family

Deer Run Golf CourseThe fun begins before you ever reach the course with a ride on the Washington Island Ferry to access the northernmost of Door County’s golf courses. The nine-hole course does not require great length, but the greens on this fun layout can be challenging.

Stonehedge Golf Course – This short, nine-hole course just east of Egg Harbor offers the perfect alternative for players just learning the game or a couples outing. Only three holes measure more than 300 yards. The biggest challenge comes on the greens, where small, crowned targets can leave even good players shaking their heads.

Bay Ridge Golf CourseA little further north from Ephraim Shores in Sister Bay, Bay Ridge Golf Course offers a stronger nine-hole test than its relatively short total yardage total would lead you to believe. Long-time owner Peter Trenchard was fond of saying Bay Ridge is “very easy to play, but tough to score on.” This pretty little course will draw you back for a return visit.

27 Pines Golf CourseThe nine-hole executive course located just south of the Bayview (Highway 42) bridge in Sturgeon Bay is excellent for players looking for a shorter golf experience or beginners learning about the game. Many kids have had their introduction to the game here.

Whether you bring your own clubs or rent a set, there is plenty of golf enjoyment waiting for you. These popular destinations also make for great Door County gift certificates for family and friends.
