Eat your way through the peninsula with these recommendations
Door County has grown into one of the Midwest’s most beloved food destinations, and part of the fun of any trip is discovering new places to eat in Door County — from casual cafes to standout dinner spots.
Whether you’re staying at Ephraim Shores Resort, a Door County hotel on the water, and walking from dinner back to sunset views, or driving through the villages to explore local favorites, here are a dozen eateries worth adding to your list:
Ephraim Favorites
La Sirena: One of the newer places to eat in Door County (foodies might remember as Trixie’s or The Fashionable) La Sirena offers creative, high-end Mexican cuisine from a team with James Beard and Michelin experience. Even though it’s only been open since last fall, early reviews praise its seasonal menus and flavors that are a little unexpected on the peninsula.
Old Post Office Restaurant: This local staple has been serving classic Door County fish boil for decades — complete with fresh whitefish, potatoes, onion, coleslaw, and cherry pie. Bonus: it’s about a block away from Ephraim Shores, and is also known for its homemade breakfast menu.
Chef’s Hat Café: A beloved breakfast and lunch stop with classic comfort fare, hearty portions, and a relaxed harbor-village vibe. Outdoor seating makes it a perfect first stop after a morning waterfront walk.
Prince of Pierogi: For something fun and filling, this Polish restaurant serves a range of handmade pierogi, cabbage rolls, kielbasa, and other comfort classics. The classic cheese and potato pierogi are our favorites, along with the Door County cherry pierogi for dessert!
Anatolia: Mediterranean flavors in the heart of Ephraim, with fresh kebabs, hummus, shawarma, and vegetable-forward options for lunch or dinner. One of the places to eat in Door County that is truly a hidden gem.
Wilson’s Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor: What kind of article about places to eat in Door County would this be if we neglected to mention Wilson’s? A Door County institution since 1906, Wilson’s is famous for flame-broiled burgers, old-fashioned root beer, and handcrafted ice cream.
Sunset Harbor Grill: You can’t get much closer to Ephraim Shores than this restaurant, just upstairs from the resort. Not only does it have a breathtaking view of Eagle Harbor, but it also offers homestyle breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A great menu with something for everyone — our favorite is the Salmon Salad, shown in the photo above!
Other Places to Eat in Door County
Coyote Roadhouse in Baileys Harbor: A casual, comfy haunt on the north end of Kangaroo Lake, known for its all-you-can-eat fish fry, hearty burgers, ribs, and classic American bar grub with outdoor seating. Our advice: get an Onion Loaf to share.
Mink River Basin in Ellison Bay: A laid-back spot with a big selection of bourbons (150+), forty beers on tap, and plenty of comfort food including burgers, steaks, and fresh fish. We often recommend this local tavern for relaxed lunches or a place to watch the game.
Pizza Czar in Baileys Harbor: Looking for authentic pizzeria pizza in one of these places to eat in Door County? Make sure you swing by Pizza Czar when it’s open during the summer and fall. This spot is right in back of PC Junction and serves no-frills pizza with your choice of toppings.
Savor BBQ & Taphouse in Sister Bay: This food truck turned restaurant is a must-try for smoked meats (think Texas-style brisket, smoked sausage, and pulled pork) and all the side dishes that go with them. They even have breakfast sandwiches, named after country music greats like Reba, Hank, Dolly, and Willie.
Cultured Sourdough in Sister Bay: A locally-loved bakery and lunch stop celebrating sourdough bread and handcrafted sandwiches with coffee and baked goods. The love extends past Door County, with Cultured recently picking up a James Beard nomination for Outstanding Bakery.
The peninsula’s food scene covers every style and craving, from classic Wisconsin comfort food to inventive menus that rival big-city dining. With so many places to eat in Door County, you’ll never run out of something new to try.
